Here at 12 Volt Outdoor Lighting we carry a variety of products to fulfill all our customers desires for 12 Volt Lighting. Along with our large inventory of product, we try to share as much of our knowledge as possible about Outdoor lighting, in order to help our customers make the best, most informed decisions possible. Today, I will be writing a brief introduction about the different bulbs that we carry, and the basic information you need to know about those bulbs. At a further date, I will be writing more in depth articles on each of the types of bulbs and the negatives and positives compared to the other options. So lets begin:
MR11 and MR16- these light bulbs are the most commonly used bulbs for outdoor lighting. They cone shaped, and can fit in many types of fixtures. The MR16 is slightly larger than the MR11, so when buying the bulb you must check its size to make sure it fits in the fixture you are trying to fill. MR light bulbs use halogen reflector technology to spread light, and can heat up very quickly, making them unstable to use near sources of water.
PAR Halogen bulbs – these bulbs are usually from 3.5 inches to 4 inches wide, and thus must be used in larger fixtures than the MR bulbs. These are manufactured to be somewhat water resistant and can be used in the ground near sprinklers and such. They are made to withstand the temperature changes when water hits the hot bulb. They can also be used under water in pools and such if put in watertight cases.
Since there is a lot more information to be conveyed, this article is split into two, and the second part will continue and discuss the remaining two popular types of outdoor lighting bulbs. Make sure to follow up in order to get the rest of the information.
