Top Tips To Guarantee You Get The Correct LED Bulb |
All though it may seem straight forward enough choosing the correct led's for the job at hand can be a lot more difficult thatpreviously thought. This is maily due to the different factors involved when buying your bulbs. Thefirst area being that of wattage or lack of it as the case maybe. What I mean by this is that at the moment the bulbs are presently classed in two ways; they will display the well known wattagemeasurement method that is well know by themasses but this is soon to be changed to the less well known Lumens grading system. Currently a 40w every day bulb will use considerably more enrgy than it led counterpart (this will use 4-5 watts) thus there is alot of missjudgement surrounding this as the masses doesn't yet really comprhend this grading system. The FTC stated (2012) that all wattagegradings were to be removed from the packaging it was only due to the sustained pressure bystockists to keep the wattage measurements on that has meant that for a short time both lumens and wattage will be supplied together. So the point to take away here is to compare the incandescent light that you are changing with the LED bulb counterpart and to ensure that the Lumens measure up to the watts. What exactly are lumens I hear you say, they are the measurment of percieved brightness thus the higher the lumens the higher the brightness so by grading this now to the still show wattagecomparisons you will get a clearer indication of the led's that will meet your current needs.
The next area to address is that of the type of bulbs light that you will need for your requirements.Dissregarding for a moment the colored and flashing types of lights and focusing more on the widely used LED bulbs variations. The more widely used led's come in 3 color ways warm white, natural white and cool white. Although it may seem strange to have 3 similar color lights but with led's the color structure comes with a purpose purpose. The convention behind it is like so, the warm light is comparable to your conventional house bulb, the natural light is what would be used to do the job of flurecent lights and finally it is the cool white that would be used to do the job of commercial lighting especially that of warehouses and factories. So the point to take note of here is just because theled's are white doesn't necesisarily mean that they are the right bulb for the purpose.
The following area covers the simple issue of the sockets. It may seem relatively common sense it's just worth making sure you take note of the various socket fittings when purchasing your bulb because as with conventional bulbs each bulb will come in a variety of sockets. The most common of these are pin and screw also known as Edison. The pin is a push in feature not like you regular bayonets and the edison type is what you would find sunken in to walls i.e. dry wall etc, ceiling panels. It's also worth being aware that when you purchase your these bulbs that there is an option to have the light dimmable. Many led companies are now manufacturing bulbs that are dimmable out of the box i.e. FEIT electric bulbs, so make sure when purchasing the led'sthat you are aware of this so that your LED bulbs meet your needs.
Finally, when purchasing the correct led lights make sure that you actually purchase aquality bulb, due to the cost attached topurchasing a quality bulb this will be the differecne between yourled's lasting 10 years as opposed to dying early after 3. Rather than buy via ebay etc for reduced prices make sure you purchase products that are marked an certified i.e. buy Energy Star, UL and the FCC. This will ensure a quality led light product built to {stand the test of time last, that has passed multiple stringent test. |
