Why People Like Illuminated Sign Frames
These days it's hard to go for a drive at night without running into all different types of illuminated signage (in my part of the world, if you find yourself without any well lit signs, there's a good chance you got lost. That's the point when I usually reach for the GPS). You'll see flashing and chasing LED message signs hanging in convenience store windows, giant glowing emblems outside fast food restaurants, stylized logos in neon perched in the windows of pubs, and so many more. One of the most familiar signs to us is that of a poster displayed in an illuminated frame, showing us all manner of advertisements, graphic arts, and everything else, even in the darkest hours of the night. But why is that style of sign frame so popular with people and businesses? It's not just one specific thing that's made them a hit, but rather a combination of many different factors. Here are seven of the most distinctive and notable points as to why we keep coming back to illuminated sign frames for our store advertisements.

On the inside of stores such as clothing boutiques and bookstores illuminated poster holders are the perfect way to display signage and give the poster that little extra boost to make sure it gets noticed. It's also a good way to advertise sales, clearances, and new product arrivals. They're also a common sight outside of a movie theatre, filled with posters for upcoming films or popular re-releases. Illuminated frames are a constant presence in airports and train stations, featuring signs of local places of interest, famous restaurants, and outlet shopping.

Illuminated signs are great attention getters

As Broadway figured out long ago, adding lights to any sort of a sign is an immediate eye-catcher, drawing attention to the message on your marquee. When it comes to stores, we're inclined to notice places that have a well lit poster or advertisements outside rather than a store that can't stand out as well at night (or even on cloudy days when the sun's natural light is a bit weaker than with clear skies). By using illuminated frames stores and other establishments are able to announce their presence to passersby, saying that they're open for business and that they may just have that specific product you've been driving around for the past two hours trying to find.

Illuminated frames give you your choice of lighting options

It's all there in the name with these illuminated poster holders ¨C the lights are one of the most important aspects of the frame. When looking at these frames for purchase there are many different lighting options, however, there are two common and popular light bulbs that keep popping up frequently. Companies often like to use LEDs (light-emitting diodes) or T5 fluorescent bulbs in their illuminated sign holders. There are benefits and detractors for each type of bulb, so if you're looking to purchase one you'll have to decide which bulb fits your needs better than the other.

While they are one of the more expensive options, LEDs are also one of the longest lasting options. You could have an LED frame operating twenty-fours hours a day, every day of the year, and it will still take years for the bulbs to run their course and start to fade. Since they use little energy per day in order to keep running, it's not implausible for you to leave the illumination on for long periods of time. However, when you have LEDs in larger frames, the illumination does dim towards the center of the image.

The more wallet friendly option is the T5 fluorescent lights. The T5s are one of the brightest bulbs around, providing clear and even illumination in larger frames as well as smaller styles. While these models are usually less expensive than an LED based frame, the bulbs also don't last as long ¨C usually about one and a half to two years before the light bulbs need to be switched out (which is an easy process to complete).

AdChoices
Illuminated frames give you numerous pricing options as well

The pricing options on these well-lit frames are directly related to the bulbs they contain, although that isn't the only factor that comes into play. Certain smaller models can be purchased for under a hundred dollars, but you're limited on style, size, and location for use with those frames. In general, there are a few guidelines you can follow when looking at poster frames for purchase. An LED frame will cost you more at the beginning, but it will cost less to run throughout its long life. LED frames mean that images will not be as bright, especially in larger sizes. The T5 fluorescent holders will save you money at the beginning, but you'll end up with higher electric bills while running the frame and the bulbs will burn out a great deal earlier than the LEDs. The bulbs are easy to replace, though, and provide some of the brightest illumination around regardless of what size the frame is.

You have your choice of finishes and materials in illuminated poster holders

While any good poster holder is supposed to bring the customer's attention directly towards the image or advertisement you're showcasing, you still want your frame to look sharp and complement the appearance of your establishment. Many models, especially the outdoor ones, are made from a sturdy aluminum to help protect the lights and the poster inside. Some popular colors for those frames are black and silver as they're neutral yet stylish at the same time. Polycarbonate is what's often used to make the lens overlays in these frames as it's clear and non-glare, ensuring that your posters can be seen at all times. The durable aluminum frame also makes a good support for the edge-lighting systems which are found in both LED and T5 fluorescent models. Edge-lit systems are one of the best ways to prevent shadows and hot spots from occurring on your graphic.

The construction and design of these frames also helps to give establishments a modern look

Illuminated signage isn't a new development (how many years have people been putting candles or lanterns in windows to let passersby know that they were open for business or that they were at home that evening?) but developing technology has constantly been improving the quality of these signs, as well as the aesthetic appeal of them. Many illuminated sign frames these days feature a very minimalistic and smooth look, with little fussiness and ornamental detailing. The look that these frames have works well with many different styles of design and the many different posters and graphics that could be displayed within the frame as well.

There are illuminated sign holders that have been specially designed for use outside

Why relegate your illuminated signage to an indoors setting? People are out and shopping at night, so let them know that you're open for business! If you want to get an outdoors model, look for one with T5 fluorescent lights as those seem to be used more in exterior rated frames. Fluorescent bulbs will also provide a brighter image, which is a benefit at nighttime or on cloudy days. Outdoor rated models also should feature a locking frame to keep your posters safe from theft, and have rubber stripping inserted inside the frame to keep moisture and water from getting inside and ruining your graphics.

There are many varied reasons as to why people keep returning to illuminated sign frames and well lit signage again and again that I know I haven't covered here in this article. But since so many people do use them constantly, I think it's safe to say that they work, and they work well.
