How To Care For The Edgelyte Econo T5 Lightbox |

Backlit poster frames such as the EdgeLyte Econo T5™ lightbox from Blue River Digital Inc. can turn heads and help your message cut through the noise and clutter in your shopping center or retail space.
Related Articles Can led-powered lightboxes overheat? How Can I Get The Best Black Colors In My Backlit Film? Get Your Event Popular with Event Signage EdgeLyte-series lightboxes are built to deliver years of maintenance-free performance, but it's often handy to know the ins and outs of an appliance that's helping broadcast your message, so you can keep it in tip-top shape. Here are our quick tips on taking the best care of your EdgeLyte Econo T5 backlit lightboxes:
CLEANING 每 This almost goes without saying, but be careful to use non-abrasive products, since the clear lens is plastic. In terms of visual appeal at close range, lint and dust are enemies of lightboxes, especially in front of the part of your graphic artwork which is solid black or very dark. A good way to minimize lint contaminants between your graphic film and the clear lens is to give a quick burst or two with a can of compressed air just before assembly.
MOISTURE 每 First, it's important to note that the EdgeLyte series lightboxes are designed for indoor use only. If you inadvertently placed your lightbox outdoors for any length of time, even if you might think the weather was relatively non-humid, we recommend you remove the clear lenses and the graphic films, and allow all the components to dry thoroughly before re-assembly. Even a small amount of moisture trapped behind the clear lens may cause visible scaling, discoloration or mildew.
UV EXPOSURE 每 If your lightboxes are displayed in a window facing south or west, and/or if your store is located in the southerly or warmer climes, and/or if your store has no awning or overhang# whatever the case that may result in more sunlight and heat, you can be sure that UV radiation is doing its "duty" to break down the finishes and colors of anything you have standing in its path. The first item likely to suffer is your full-color graphic film. As you probably know, this film can be replaced without replacing the lightbox. In extreme exposure environments, the clear lens may also begin to yellow slightly over time. To prolong the lens life for units that hang in a window, if your lightboxes are the double-sided display variety, rotate them (inside facing out and vice versa) every few months. Also, if you have purchased more than one lightbox, switch positions among multiple lightboxes, to "share" the UV load.
AdChoices TRANSPORTATION 每 Like all electric-lighted appliances, your EdgeLyte Econo T5 lightbox contains fragile electronic parts, including gas-filled fluorescent lamps. This calls for extreme care in transportation. Never ship the unit except in its original packing, and be sure to use ALL the packing that was originally provided. Also remember to insure the shipment for full value, because even the most conscientious shipping company has had a carton (or a hundred) accidentally fall off a conveyor belt, occasionally. As unlikely as this event may be for your one or few unit(s), no reasonable amount of packaging could guarantee that the performance and life expectancy of your lightbox would not be compromised, if such a fall (or similar stress) did occur.
REPLACING LAMPS 每 The lamps in the EdgeLyte Econo T5 are extra-long life lamps, rated for 12,000 hours of life. So if you power them 6 days a week for 10 hours a day, they'll give you about 4 years of service before needing a lamp change! There are 2 long lamps in each of your EdgeLyte units, one placed on each of the 2 longer sides of the display panel. If one edge of your lightbox display appears dimmer than the other, this could indicate that one of the lamps has expired. Lamps are customer-serviceable, so you can flip open one of the longer frame edges for access. Replacement lamps can be ordered from Blue River Digital, or you can check your local hardware store for the same size and voltage; be sure to take the old lamp with you to compare, and make sure the size, pin configuration and power rating are identical.
REPLACING THE BALLAST 每 If you have changed a lamp or lamps and your lightbox still doesn't light up, then most likely the ballast has failed. The ballast is basically a power transformer for fluorescent lamps, and the EdgeLyte series ballasts are designed to last for 5 to 7 years with daily use. If you need to replace it however, underneath one of the shorter edge flaps you will find the ballast, held in place by a couple of phillips screws. Simply remove and replace with the new ballast, and your lightbox should be just like new.
Thank you, and we wish you the best of success with your backlit retail promotion strategies! |
